Radio Frequency Identification

RFID 

What is RFID? Yes, that is the same question I had when I heard about it. Well, as it turns out RFID is a radio frequency identification used to store, read and transmit data located in RFID tags. Ok, so what is a RFID tag? An RFID tag is actually a device which contains a tiny chips and a radio antennas; these devices or tags can be attached to objects such as price tags, shipping labels, ID cards even livestock, cars and computers. These tags can only be read by RFID readers these readers read and transmit data to identify the object with the RFID tag. When an object with the tag is a within the range of the RFID reader , which ranges from two inches to about 300ft or more, it recognizes it and transmits the data in the tag. Each tag is unique and can be identified individually and also data can be updated as necessary. Today many companies and institutions use RFID technology to keep and track data necessary to conduct business, things such as inventory tracking, ticketing applications, mobile payments, package tracking, and even border security.

Did you know that there are three types of commonly used cables in computer networking today? Well,there are. So I will briefly give you a description of each of them and what they are used for. Let's begin!

Coaxial Cable

The coaxial cable is commonly used to carry a large amounts of high speed video transmissions at a single time. This type of media is mainly used in cable TV services, computer networks, and telephone transmissions outside of home. This cable consists of a single copper wire surrounded by insulating material which in turn is surrounded by an outer conductor made up of braided metal then then its outer layer is made up of a plastic jacket.There are two types of coaxial cables one with BNC connectors which turn to lock or unlock the cable into place and the other which has threaded F connectors. The latter is used frequently with antenna applications.


Twisted-Pair Cable


The twisted-pair cable consists of pairs of plastic insulated copper wires twisted together then enveloped by a plastic jacket. This type of cable has been used the most and can be found almost anywhere where there are phone lines. Twisted-pair cable is used with both analog and digital data transmission and is widely used for LANs. It reduces interference and improves performance because of the way its built, and to to further improve performance it can also be shielded with a metal lining. There are some variations of this cable and each has a different type of connector. For example the one used for phone lines usually have RJ-11 connectors, while the ones used for networking come with RJ-45 connectors which are larger than the ones for phones. But the best feature of this type of cable is that it is the least expensive of all.


Fiber-Optic Cable

The newest and fastest type of wire transmission media is the fiber-optic cable. This cable is made up of thin transparent glass or plastic fiber strands that allow data to be transferred. It works by transferring large amounts of data represented by light pulses at faster speeds than the rest. Because of the way the cable is constructed it allows large amounts of digital data to be transferred making the process faster than if using metal cables. Fiber-optic cable is mainly used for the high speed backbone lines of a networks as well as digital telephone lines. Because this cable has the advantage of speed it is the most expensive of all the cables available for data transfer in use today.

ROM AND RAM

What is so different? Well for starters ROM (read-only memory) is a computer memory  attached to the motherboard inside a system unit. It is made up of nonvolatile chips that hold or store data or programs permanently even if the system is shut off. RAM (random access memory), on the other hand is the system unit's main memory, this memory stores important parts of the operating system as well as programs and data the computer is using at the time. This memory card is made up of  volatile chips which means that the content is lost when the system is shut off. The big difference with RAM is that it can be plugged and unplugged from the motherboard because it attaches to slots within the motherboard. And the best thing about this type of memory is that users can add more RAM to their systems; this helps with the computers performance because it transfers data at a faster rate. So, yeah! These are some of  the differences between ROM and RAM.
